History

Our History

Founded in Orlando back in 1972, Southeastern Surveying and Mapping Corporation (SSMC) is an independent, employee-owned surveying and mapping, subsurface utility engineering (SUE) and geographic information systems (GIS) firm serving the southeast United States.

Over the years, SSMC has grown into Florida’s largest surveying firm and a leader in responsiveness, service, and quality. At the forefront of technology, SSMC uses state-of-the-art equipment, advanced software and streamlined processes to drive positive results.

ESOP Leadership Since 2017

2017 was a year of progress and transition for SSMC, our clients, and our employees. We made the decision to participate in an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) that lets employees actively contribute to the company’s success. We have experienced record growth and success ever since. As a result, we proudly hold the title of the largest employee-owned land surveying and mapping firm in the southeast U.S.

Our Milestones

Orlando

Established in 1972 by the original founders, Roger and Nancy Lonsway, SSMC’s Orlando office is proud to service Central Florida, District Five for FDOT and numerous additional Counties and Municipalities.

1998 SUE

Darryll E. DeMarsh (pictured right) joins the SSMC team in 1998 to establish and expand the Subsurface Utilities Engineering Division. Since coming on board, Darryll has provided leadership to the SUE Division as well as overseeing it’s growth and development.

Chipley

Founded in 1998, our Chipley office extends its services not only to surrounding counties, but also to the rest of the panhandle, Alabama, Louisiana, and District Three for FDOT. This location is managed by SSMC’s President, Thomas K. Mead, PSM.

GIS Established

President and Owner of Engineering & Land Systems, Brian Garvey P.E., joined the SSMC team in August of 2000 and began our GIS service line. Since its inception, Brian has maintained oversight of the growth and development of SSMC’s GIS Division.

Jacksonville

Opened in 2009, SSMC’s Jacksonville, FL office continues to service Northeast Florida, District Two for FDOT as well as Georgia, under the management of Robert W. Gardner, PSM, LEED GA.

Kissimmee

The Kissimmee office was originally established in 2009 as SSMC continued to expand it’s coverage in Central Florida to better service it’s clients. Our current location places us in the heart of downtown Kissimmee, on Broadway St.

Tavares

Opened in June of 2011, SSMC’s Tavares office is able to extend our full range of services throughout Central Florida and surrounding areas.

Tampa

In 2011, SSMC acquired a local Land Surveying & Mapping firm, Harry W. Marlow, Inc., located in Pinellas Park, FL in order to better accommodate our existing clients and expand our service area. After two years in Pinellas Park, the decision was made to move the office within Tampa’s city limits in 2013. This location is managed by Bill Gilbert, PSM.

Dothan

Though SSMC extended it’s service range to Alabama in previous years, in 2017 the decision was made to establish a permanent presence through the opening of our Dothan, AL office.

ESOP Leadership 2017

2017 was a year of progress and transition for SSMC, for the benefit of not only it’s clients, but also it’s employees. The decision was made to partake in an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) to allow all employees the opportunity to actively participate in the company’s success. Since then, the SSMC family has experienced record growth and success. As a result, we are proud to hold the title of being the largest Land Surveying & Mapping firm in the Southeast that is 100% Employee-Owned.
