District 2
Due to increasing need for improved traffic flow, public safety, and increased capacity, I-10 (SR 8) is being widened from I-295 to I-95. Once finished, this critical five-mile corridor will showcase up to ten lanes between I-295 and I-95 in preparation of the expanded traffic volume scheduled over the next two decades. With construction beginning in the Summer of 2020 and an expected completion date of 2025, SSMC is proud to have performed Surveying & Mapping and Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) services, during the PD&E Study and Design phase of this $176.4 million dollar project.
Partnering with the Design Engineer, SSMC was responsible for providing these services throughout the entirety of the project corridor. These included but were not limited to: providing Surveying & Mapping to assist in refining and analyzing mainline alternatives, interchange alternatives, preparing parcel to impact analysis for FDOT right-of-way costs, pond siting reports, locating approximately 600 geotechnical boring locations, performing utility designation (QL-B) of the entire corridor and arterial roadways, and utility location (QL-A) in conformance with ASCE C-1-38-02 to verify subsurface facility locations vertically and horizontally (VVH) for conflict mitigation of widening and drainage improvements. All efforts were performed per Florida Statutes (F.S.) Section 472.027, Standards of Practice for Land Surveying and Mapping Services, and F.S. Chapter 556, Underground Facility Damage Prevention and Safety Act.
