FDOT Resurfacing Project
SSMC has held a Professional Services Contract with Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) since 2005. As water main breaks continued to increase along this section of pipe, the need to replace 4,300’ of 16” cast iron pipe with 16” ductile iron pipe along SR 527 (South Orange Avenue) from Grant Street to Annie Street became apparent. Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) engaged our Subsurface Utilities Engineering (SUE) division to perform Utility Location (QL-A) vacuum excavation in conformance with ASCE C-1-38-02 at 60 specific locations to aid in the engineering and construction of the replacement pipe. By leveraging our FDOT qualifications and permitting experience for work within FDOT Right-of-Way, the SUE division was able to adequately coordinate with the resurfacing project of SR 527 from Grant Street to Gore Street, while expediting the project’s schedule and exceeding scope expectations for OUC’s water main replacement.

“I had the pleasure of working with a couple of your employees over the past couple weeks. James Murphy and Beau Boyles; very professional and “can do” attitudes. They worked well with the crew from PSI and the task was completed one day ahead of schedule with no underground utilities damaged.”
