Containing over 1,000 acres of estuarine wetlands and being the largest saltwater marsh in Choctawhatchee Bay, the Live Oak Peninsula Mitigation Area is responsible for a myriad of wetland functions. Some of these include but are not limited to, preventing erosion through shoreline stabilization, buffering upland areas from storm surges, providing nursery and foraging habitat for a variety of aquatic organisms, bird habitat, and the natural filtering of runoff from adjacent uplands.

Since 2013, SSMC has partnered with the Northwest Florida Water Management District (NWFWMD) to support their efforts to manage water supply, improve water quality, enhance, and monitor flood protection programs, and better plan around natural system protection by providing as-needed Professional Surveying Services. Engaging under our existing contract, SSMC provided a boundary survey.

Field teams established control in State Plane Coordinates (Florida North) with vertical project control in NAVD 88 Datum. Additionally, they established the approximate location of all exterior boundary lines based on deeds and available field evidence and reset any missing corners of parcels 08-2S-20-33000-001-000, 09-2S-20-33000-002-0000, and 09-2S-20-33000-001-000. All improvements were located as evidenced by above-ground features on subject parcels. To determine the mean high-water Line, sufficient fieldwork was required to obtain vertical information necessary for the parcels listed to be shown on final drawings. Finally, fieldwork was required to determine the ownership lines of the riparian uplands, any shoreline vegetation, the location of any proposed existing structures, and the riparian lines. A legal description and acreage were prepared for the final drawing.
