Board Members

Thom has over 37 years of Professional Surveying and Mapping experience. He is responsible for estimating, project coordination, and scheduling field and office personnel for a variety of survey projects for both private and public sector clients. Thom has
extensive experience in all aspects of surveying and mapping including, but not limited to, engineering surveys, boundary surveys, topographic surveys, aerial surveys, right‐of‐way surveys and maps, hydrographic surveys, quantity surveys, as‐built surveys, underground
utility surveys, planimetric maps, easements, legal descriptions and sketch of description, construction layout, cut and fill calculations, G.I.S./CADD services, GPS services, plan review services, including plat review per F.S. Chapter 177, and other related surveying
and mapping services.

Brian has 38 years of Professional Geographic Information System (GIS) experience and is responsible for all aspects of GIS database design and development as well as GPS asset inventories. He has extensive experience in all aspects of surveying and mapping services including, but not limited to, GIS mapping, GIS data conversion, and other aerial mapping related tasks.

Darryll has 27 years of Subsurface Utility Engineering experience. He is responsible for coordinating, estimating, managing, and administering utility projects for design, conflict verification, and relocation. Darryll has extensive experience in all aspects of Subsurface Utility Engineering including performing Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR); recording research and performing data collection (Quality Level D); performing visual sight surveys (Quality Level C); performing utility designation, locating, and mapping (Quality Level B); and performing test hole/pot holing (Quality Level A). When finished collecting data, Darryll works with SSMC’s CAD Department to provide results in the Florida State Plane Coordinate System (GIS, CADD, and PDF formats).

Rebecca Gardiner‐Bess serves as General Counsel at Southeastern Surveying and Mapping Corporation, and is responsible for protecting our company’s legal interests and maintaining its operations within the scope established by law. She provides hands-on counsel to all levels of the executive staff and oversees the legal department’s operations. Additionally, Rebecca plays a key role in guiding the development of company programs, strategic planning, and the implementation and management of company operations.

In her capacity as Administrative Director, Rebecca coordinates with Functional Supervisors in each office to oversee the performance of the administrative staff. She is responsible for the assignment and distribution of work, training, scheduling, task assignments, and quality control of administrative tasks.

Rebecca joined SSMC in 2012 as a Contracts Administrator. She was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2011 after earning her Law degree from Florida A&M University, College of Law. Rebecca is an active member of the Florida Bar, serving on the Eminent Domain Committee and the Governmental and Public Policy Advocacy Committee.

In 2019, Rebecca was unanimously appointed to the SSMC Board of Directors. As a board member, she collaborates with other board members, the SSMC Leadership Council, and the ESOP Communications Committee to support and enhance the company’s growth and serve its community of owners.

Lee has 23 years of experience and is a seasoned Project Surveyor at SSMC, specializing in post-processing electronic field book data using various software. He prepares field survey data for CAD technicians and supports Project Managers with research, computations, and field assignment preparations. Lee manages a variety of complex projects, overseeing research, reconnaissance, and coordination of field and office personnel for Topographic, Boundary, As-Built, Control, Hydrographic, Mean High Water Line, and Quantity Surveys, Construction Layout, and Land Platting. He also collaborates closely with the SSMC Utility and GIS Divisions. Lee’s hands-on approach ensures the delivery of high-quality products that meet or exceed industry standards. He also has valuable experience with FDOT-related projects and has established quality control standards for transportation projects.

With 13 years of experience, Grozio specializes in Subsurface Utility Engineering, Surveying, and Mapping. He is responsible for coordinating, estimating, and administering utility projects for design and relocation, as well as planning utility mapping projects for conflict verification. Grozio has managed numerous projects using state-of-the-art Electronic Utility Locating Equipment and Ground Penetrating Radar to designate subsurface utilities and structures. He has extensive experience working on projects throughout Florida for various clients, including local government agencies, utility companies, engineering firms, and the FDOT. Grozio is also skilled in using GPS with Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) positions to collect data on existing utilities and conduct As-Built Surveys for utilities.

With 14 years of experience, Edwin specializes in project coordination and scheduling field and office personnel for both private and public sector survey projects. He has extensive expertise in all aspects of surveying and mapping services, including topographic, hydrographic, right-of-way mapping, route surveys, boundary, and specific purpose surveys, as well as construction surveying. Edwin is also skilled in producing plats for recording, setting monuments, marking boundary lines, and performing various other surveying duties.
