CSX Bridge
With the multitude of railway bridges required to safely transport goods and equipment, over existing waterways, CSX is continually updating existing infrastructure for construction. As part of this effort, CSX employs engineering consultants to aid in examining current bridges and designing improvements for future improvements. However, the Engineer must heavily rely on field-collected data to have an accurate understanding of existing conditions and how to improve the design.
As part of this effort, SSMC field members are the first in and the last out. Establishing vertical and horizontal control, site benchmarks, locating rail elevations, abutment dimensions, geotechnical borings, observable cutoff piles, and providing channel cross-sections are only a few of the tasks completed and needed for the engineer to begin the design with all efforts conforming per Florida Statutes (F.S.) Section 472.027, Standards of Practice for Land Surveying and Mapping Services. By providing accurate and reproducible field data, the surveyor helps prevent costly change orders and delays when the project enters the construction phase.
