Haines City to Osprey Energy Center Transmission Corridor

DEF-Haines City

Extending from Osprey Energy Center to Haines City East substation (approximately 21 miles East), Duke Energy Florida (DEF) is planning on construction of a new 230-kV transmission line. The new transmission poles will either be concrete, or single-pole steel with a height of 90’ – 110’. To properly plan and design the new corridor and placement of transmission line structures, existing properties, boundary lines and corners, right-of-way and right-of-way corners, and subsurface utilities must be correctly mapped.

As part of this effort, SSMC performed a route survey for Segment 3 that included the above tasks in addition to the preparation of sketches and legal descriptions for 170 parcels and conflict mitigation for subsurface utilities via vacuum excavation (QL-A) of all proposed pole locations (6’ x 6’ x 5’) in conformance with ASCE C-1-38-02 as well as adhering to all Duke Energy Florida, OSHA, state, and local safety procedures. All efforts were performed per Florida Statutes (F.S.) Section 472.027, Standards of Practice for Land Surveying and Mapping Services, and F.S. Chapter 556, Underground Facility Damage Prevention and Safety Act.

“I had the pleasure of working with a couple of your employees over the past couple weeks. James Murphy and Beau Boyles; very professional and “can do” attitudes. They worked well with the crew from PSI and the task was completed one day ahead of schedule with no underground utilities damaged.”
