Little Wekiva River
When Hurricane Irma struck Florida in 2017, the hurricane incurred extensive damage throughout various regions throughout the state. The City of Altamonte Springs was impacted by the stormwater surge and recorded peak flows along the Little Wekiva River between SR 436 and SR 434. This concentrated storm surge and resulting flooding concerned the City’s staff about the potential streambank erosion and structural damage sustained by the bridges along the river within this corridor.
To assist the city in erosion control countermeasures along the Little Wekiva River, SSMC partnered with Pegasus Engineering, LLC to provide a topographic survey along this route to aid in developing construction plans for each project section. The SSMC team also provided sketch and legal descriptions for all temporary construction easements (TCE’s) surrounding the project work areas and proposed routes for construction, requiring ingress and egress between the Little Wekiva River and public right-of-way. All efforts were performed per Florida Statutes (F.S.) Section 472.027, Standards of Practice for Land Surveying and Mapping Services.
